| Dear Friend, ICNY bids a fond farewell to the 25 K-12 teachers who participated in our July 2022 Religious Worlds of New York summer institute. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with these amazing educators -- exploring the religious life of the city and creative ways to teach the study of religion. The teachers have now returned home to 14 states throughout the country where they will help thousands of students explore the rich religious diversity of their own communities. Following the success of our New York Faith Communities Respond to Gun Violence conference in December 2021, the Interfaith Center of New York has received a grant from City Council Member Amanda Farías - District 18 in the Bronx to train and support diverse faith leaders to be nonviolence ambassadors and contribute to change and violence delegitimization including, but not limited to, working with houses of worship, senior and community centers, NYCHAs, and educational institutions. ICNY is also thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generous support of the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, we are now accepting applications for the fourth round of the Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy (ICLA). All NYC religious leaders are welcome to apply for this multi-faith leadership development program, which will take place in November. The program includes civic engagement, advocacy, and community organizing trainings, and participants will receive stipends to cover expenses as well as grant funding to develop their own community-based projects. ICNY is looking forward to working with a new cohort of emerging religious leaders from the city’s diverse faith communities, offering them the tools they need to make a difference as together we build a more just and inclusive city for all New Yorkers. Please share this opportunity with your own faith community. Finally, I am sad to share the obituary of ICNY founding Board Member Walter Beebe. Walter Beebe passed away unexpectedly following a hiking accident on July 1, at the age of 82. He died in the loving presence of his wife, Carol, and all five of his children. A dear friend of the Very Rev. James Parks Morton, Walter founded the New York Open Center after a four-decade long successful legal career. All of us will miss Walter and his wise leadership and guidance for ICNY. We are not the only ones who will inherit stronger organizations, greater confidence in our own abilities, and more peaceful environments because of him. Walter's legacy is a precious one--passed on through his children and grand-children and all who had the opportunity to know him. Sincerely, |

| | |  | Calling all NYC Faith Leaders Working to Make a Difference | Applications Now Open for the Next Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy | Applications due September 23rd | Throughout New York, diverse faith leaders are working to create positive change for their own communities and the city as a whole. With support from the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, ICNY’s Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy gives them the tools they need to make a difference. In a series of evening workshops, our ICLA fellows explore: • Diverse models of civic engagement and religious leadership • Effective policy advocacy and community organizing strategies • Guided reflection on their own distinctive leadership styles • Interfaith dialogue to build personal relationships across faith lines Our fellows then develop community projects that contribute to the civic life of New York. Each fellow receives $500 in grant funding to support their project, as well as a $500 personal stipend to recognize their time commitment and cover their expenses. Anti-Bullying Youth Summit | Saturday, August 20th - 11:00 - 2:00 PM EST | Turning Point for Women and Families invites your youth and students ages 13 to 20 to participate in their 11th Annual ARISE NY! Anti-Bullying Youth Summit, an annual citywide event addressing bullying, racism, discrimination, xenophobia, sexual harassment, and hate crimes. The summit is taking place virtually on Saturday, August 20th from 11am to 2pm ET. All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the summit and can request service hours for their attendance. | | | |  | Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Faith Practitioners | Registration is open, program beings on September 14th | Offered by donation to faith practitioners (no-one will be turned away due to lack of funds!), this 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course will help you relate differently to the stresses in your life and offers opportunities to cultivate resilience and emotional intelligence. It supports many faith-specific contemplative practices. Facilitated by Ananta, a former ICLA Fellow, a certified MBSR teacher by the Mindfulness Center at Brown University and an ordained Buddhist. He has decades of experience in meditation practice, study and group facilitation. | |

Started June 28: for everyone 18 years old and under at select public schools, community pools and parks | Breakfast and lunch will continue beyond the instructional school year. the NYC Department of Education's Summer Meals Program is available throughout New York City to anyone ages 18 years old and under. Designated public schools, community pool centers, parks, and food trucks will be open for service. No registration, documentation, or ID is necessary to receive a free breakfast or lunch meal. Breakfast and lunch meals reflect the NYC Department of Education’s commitment to the highest standard of nutrition. Our meals meet or exceed U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards and do not use food additives such as artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. | |  | Pastoral Education New CPE Program in the Heart of Brooklyn The Inaugural unit will be an extended CPE unit that starts in September 2022, and ends in May 2023 | The Chaplaincy Department of Maimonides Medical Center is thrilled to announce the creation of a new innovative CPE program, open to persons of all spiritual traditions, housed in one of New York’s historic Jewish hospitals. People in crisis need comfort, support, counseling, and guidance. Chaplains and other spiritual caregivers are trusted to be a key source of this support. But how do spiritual caregivers learn to offer support? CPE offers students – seminarians, clergy, and caregiving professionals – intensive training on how to offer spiritual care. We equip students to respond to the needs of people facing extremis. CPE at Maimonides utilizes psychological concepts, our spiritual tradition, as well as intensive multi-faith multi-cultural engagement. Students will also use creative arts as means of spiritual expression, reflection, and connection.The educational model of CPE involves providing care and reflecting on that care with the help of a learning community and an ACPE Certified Educator. Students cycle from caregiving to learning to caregiving once more – with a refined and growing competence. The program is open to people of all of traditions and backgrounds, whether already serving as clergy in houses of worship or those who are currently religious students in Yeshiva, Seminary, Divinity School, etcetera. Applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine if this clinical setting is a good match for the student’s learning needs.
